Michael Figueroa

Biography

Michael Figueroa is a performance maker and dance teacher currently residing in Asheville, NC. His dances navigate rule-breaking, rote and body memory, personal anecdotes, audience participation, and improvised situations. His work has been commissioned by SPACE Gallery (ME), Dance Now Boston, Outside the Box Festival, Mobius Artists Group (MA), and The Dance Complex. He has worked collaboratively with Alexander Davis, Jimena Bermejo, Sonia Santvoord, Sarah Mae Gibbons, and performed in works by Mark Dendy, Prometheus Dance, Margot Gelber & Dancers, Alternative Dance Nation, and Public Displays of Motion. Michael attended The Boston Conservatory and graduated with a BFA in dance. He grew up in Palm Beach Gardens, FL where he attended Alexander W. Dreyfoos Jr. School of the Arts under the direction of Jan Hanniford Goetz, where he received intensive ballet and modern dance training and the great privilege to perform works by Neta Pulvermacher, Troy Powell, and Margo Sappington. He has attended summer intensives at Joffrey Jazz and Contemporary, American Dance Festival, and Bates Dance Festival.
